The Assassin’s Creed games have established a penchant for death-defying leaps and paper people who die as soon as they’re pricked with a hidden blade. Naturally, director Justin Kurzel had to recreate that imagery for his Assassin’s Creed movie, and this behind-the-scenes clip reveals exactly how he pulled that off: with wires and computer graphics. Alright, so it’s not a totally unexpected way to make a movie about Michael Fassbender leaping through the air and slicing people’s throats, but it’s better than asking Fassbender to leap through the air and slice throats for real. He could get hurt doing that.
This featurette also touches on some of the Assassin’s Creed lore that fans of the games will surely be familiar with, though Fassbender and Kurzel curiously leave out the parts about aliens, a civilization that predates humanity, and the in-universe video game company that’s helping to take over the world. Hopefully we’ll see more of that weird stuff when Assassin’s Creed stabs its way into theaters on December 21.
