We heard the slowed-down strains of New Order’s “Blue Monday” in the first Atomic Blonde trailer, which introduced Charlize Theron as Lorraine Broughton, a highly-trained assassin with killer looks (and boots). That refrain is still part of the new trailer, though the track now plays at regular speed to accompany more of Lorraine’s death-defying stunts. She uses her spiked heels as weapons, survives a car crash, and bludgeons some more goons to death while admitting that her life as a secret agent will eventually kill her—just not today. James McAvoy stars as an oddly chipper agent embedded in Germany, who quickly becomes infatuated with Lorraine. But she’s way more interested in the French contact played by Sofia Boutella.
Directed by David Leitch and adapted from Antony Johnston’s The Coldest City, Atomic Blonde knocks its way into theaters July 28.
