Last year, we learned that this town, i.e., Hollywood, was big enough for another remake of Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. Antoine Fuqua quickly rustled up a posse of actors, including Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt, for The Magnificent Seven, then rode off into the sunset to shoot the dang thing (the movie, that is). The storyline has been tweaked, of course, to include a vengeful widow and plenty of quipping opportunities for Pratt. But there’s still plenty of swaggerin’, spittin’, and shoot-’em-up action.
While at TIFF, Film Club got an early look at The Magnificent Seven, which rides into theaters nationwide on September 23. But you can circle your wagons at a free advance screening of the movie on September 20. That’s right, The A.V. Club is offering a free pair of passes—all you have to do is enter your information at this link. Remember: Advance screenings are often intentionally overbooked, so be sure to arrive early if you want to secure a seat! When you’re done signing up, grab a sarsparilla (whiskey-infused or otherwise) and check out the trailer.
