Pets’ secret lives must be pretty funny considering the wealth of comedic talent that’s been co-opted to voice the cast of fuzzy critters in The Secret Life Of Pets. In a rare family-friendly role, Louis C.K. takes the lead as Max, a pampered pooch who feels betrayed when his owner adopts a second dog (Eric Stonestreet). Kevin Hart is also on-hand to play what we’ve referred to as a “genocidal CGI rabbit,” with the rest of the cast rounded out by Jenny Slate, Hannibal Buress, Steve Coogan, Lake Bell, Ellie Kemper, and Albert Brooks.
The Secret Life Of Pets hits theaters everywhere on July 8, but The A.V. Club and Universal have an opportunity for you to see it for free on Tuesday, July 5. An official plot synopsis and trailer for the film can be found below.
Max (Louis C.K.) is a spoiled terrier who enjoys a comfortable life in a New York building until his owner adopts Duke, a giant and unruly canine. During their walk outside, they encounter a group of ferocious alley cats and wind up in a truck that’s bound for the pound. Luckily, a rebellious rabbit named Snowball swoops in to save the doggy duo from captivity. In exchange, Snowball demands that Max and Duke join his gang of abandoned pets on a mission against the humans who’ve done them wrong.
