Aubrey Plaza’s characters are often pretty menacing, but she broke her own mold with her recent turn on Legion. Her unnerving stare is back for her new movie, Ingrid Goes West, in which she plays a young woman who finds other young women online to cyberstalk and attempt to emulate. After she maces a bride (Search Party’s Meredith Hagner), she has a brief psychiatric hospital stay before making the titular journey west. Once there, she falls into old habits, glomming on to Taylor (Elizabeth Olsen), whose picture-perfect life as an “influencer“ is the cause of Ingrid’s envy and torment. Their friendship is not made to last, obviously. O’Shea Jackson Jr. and Wyatt Russell costar as an aspiring actor and oblivious husband, respectively.

ingrid Goes West is Matt Spicer’s debut feature film, and is due out August 4.
