We saw a close-up of Johnny Depp’s menacing take on real-life gangster Whitey Bulger in the first trailer for Black Mass, and now the second trailer is giving us a wider shot. There’s still plenty of Depp, flexing acting muscles gone dormant through years of silly accents, silly hats, silly mustaches, and silly scripts. But we also get a glimpse of the whirlwind surrounding Bulger, including Benedict Cumberbatch as his state senator brother, and an FBI who can’t—or won’t—go after Bulger, even as he becomes one of America’s most notorious criminals.

Director Scott Cooper (Out Of The Furnace, Crazy Heart) looks determined to give some stiff competition to the several competing Bulger projects in the pipeline, with a topflight cast that also includes Kevin Bacon, Joel Edgerton, Dakota Johnson, Jesse Plemons, Peter Sarsgaard, Adam Scott, Corey Stoll, and Juno Temple.
