La La Land, Damien Chazelle’s upcoming musical starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone, may very well be on its way to awards season success, having already won over critics on the festival circuit. Now, let its trailer suck you in with its sumptuous primary colors, magical realism, endearing performances, and catchy tunes. In this new look at the film, the two central dreamers wrestle with their artistic ambitions, hoof it up, and, naturally, fall for one another, all to the sound of a galvanizing original score by Justin Hurwitz. The latter half is set to the early production number “Someone In The Crowd,” about the pressures of Hollywood parties.
The A.V. Club’s A.A. Dowd and Ignatiy Vishnevetsky are on board, both slotting it as their No. 2 pick out of TIFF, where Dowd called it “song-and-dance in the key of life.” See it when it arrives in theaters December 9.
