Even more so than its spooky teaser, the trailer for The Autopsy Of Jane Doe leans into the film’s terrifying premise. Brian Cox and Emile Hirsch star as a team of father/son coroners who are tasked with performing the autopsy of a Jane Doe found in the basement of a home where a family was brutally murdered. The standard autopsy starts to go awry as they discover that while she’s perfectly preserved on the outside, Jane Doe’s body contains gruesome clues as to what happened to her. Oh and she might not actually be dead given how often the bell attached to her foot seems to be ringing.

The movie is the English-language debut of Norwegian horror director André Øvredal (Troll Hunter). It premiered at TIFF, where it received relatively good reviews. But horror fans can judge for themselves when the film opens in both theaters and VOD on December 21—just in time for the holidays.
