Now that the Hunger Games movies have wrapped things up (though probably not for good) last fall and the Divergent series is chugging along, another post-apocalyptic YA series is ready to plot its cinematic invasion. Based on the first book of Rick Yancey’s bestselling sci-fi series, The 5th Wave hits theaters on January 22, telling the story of Cassie, a young girl struggling to keep what’s left of her family together during Earth’s hostile alien takeover. Chloë Grace Moretz, taking her first crack at leading a franchise as Cassie, is joined by an array of familiar faces, including Ron Livingston, Liev Shreiber, Maika Monroe, Tony Revolori, and Jurassic World’s Nick Robinson.

In anticipation of the film’s release, The A.V. Club and Penguin Teen have an opportunity for readers to get caught up with the popular series and see the movie adaptation in theaters. We’re giving away one prize package featuring copies of Yancey’s The 5th Wave and its follow-up, The Infinite Sea, as well as a $25 Fandango gift certificate. For your chance to win, simply send an email to avcontests@theonion.com with the subject line “The 5th Wave.” Please be sure to include your name and mailing address in the body of the email. U.S. entrants only. We’ll select one winner at random from our eligible entries on Monday, January 18, and notify them via email. An official plot synopsis and trailer for the film can be found below.

In the new film The 5th Wave, four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, Cassie (Chloë Grace Moretz) is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie teams up with a young man who may become her final hope—if she can only trust him.
